Road Safety School
Ontario's First Dedicated Road Safety Training Program

September 22-25, 2025 | Toronto Airport Marriott Hotel

Good Roads is launching its inaugural Road Safety School, a pioneering educational event set for September 22-25, 2025, at the Toronto Airport Marriott Hotel. This comprehensive program aims to transform road safety design and implementation in Canada by emphasizing a “Safe System Principles” approach. The school features a full-day conference on these principles, guided by international expert Kenn Beer, followed by a three-day specialized course from six critical aspects of road safety.

Participants will gain valuable knowledge through experiential learning, including field trips, and receive industry-recognized certificates for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Professional Development Hours (PDHs). The Road Safety School represents a significant step towards creating safer Canadian roadways and achieving Vision Zero by eliminating traffic fatalities.

Participants are asked to select one of six streams to pursue during the program. These course are:

  • Road Safety Audit: This course focuses on mastering systematic road safety assessment using the 2023 Ontario Road Safety Audit Guideline, which can lead to registration as a certified Road Safety Auditor.
  • Road Safety Barriers: This is a new course in Ontario that covers cutting-edge approaches to barrier design and implementation, addressing a critical gap in current practices.
  • Designing for Movement: Active Transport Workshop: This workshop reimagines mobility by prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists in road design, reflecting a commitment to vulnerable road user safety.
  • Intersection Design: Participants will learn to transform dangerous intersections into safer ones by mastering new and retrofit intersection designs based on TAC guidelines.
  • Municipal Liability: Temporary Work Zones: This course provides a comprehensive understanding of OTM Book 7 and OHSA requirements to create safer construction environments and minimize liability risks.
  • Signs and Lines: This course teaches how to effectively use visual communication through signs and lines to guide road users safely and to build strong defenses against potential insurance claims.
