Course Description

Snow School is an intensive online training program designed to prepare winter maintenance professionals with the latest best practices, technologies, and regulatory standards. Whether you’re operating a snow plow or managing a municipal salt plan, this course delivers practical knowledge in equipment inspection, material handling, recordkeeping, and environmental compliance. 

Participants will explore techniques for managing blowing snow, maintaining gravel roads, and serving pedestrians and cyclists—all while aligning with salt management plans and provincial guidelines. Darnell Benardo 

Ken Lauppe, Manager, Works Operations, C.E.T. (Certified Engineering Technologist), CRS-S (Certified Road Supervisor – Senior), City of Mississauga, Transportation and Works Department – Ken has more than 43 years of municipal public works experience, mostly in road operations with several municipalities in Ontario. He has a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from Ryerson, and certificates in Management Studies and Adult Education from Sheridan College. He’s also a Certified Engineering Technologist with OACETT and Certified Road Supervisor, Senior with AORS, plus a Past President of Good Roads and AORS. Ken is also a course Co-Director for Roadway Management, instructor at Snow School and member of MMS Review Committee. 

Scott Holmes, Senior Manager, Works Administration, Operations and Maintenance, CET Designation, City of Mississauga – Scott brings more than 26 years of experience working as a consultant, a contractor and has worked for three different municipalities as well. Currently he’s the Division Operations lead for the City of Mississauga emergencies. He’s managed several major emergencies from g ice storms, flooding events and two separate gas explosions. Scott graduated from St. Lawrence College (Kingston) with Civil Engineering Technology Diploma and he’s IMS Level 300 certified. In addition, he’s been an instructor with Good Roads since 2019. 

Mara Engel, Operations Project Manager, C.E.T, City of Kitchener – Mara has more than 24 years in the construction industry in varied roles. She began her journey as a structural steel project manager while spearheading the evolution to digital design within her organization. She moved from sub-contractor to general contractor as a Junior Project Manager for site servicing, commercial and multi-residential projects. She has helped develop extensive skills to build strong relationships as well as an understanding of the importance of budget and schedules.
